Most people who like large earrings have a story about taking them off early. The weight is the reason, and it is a straightforward consequence of what metal is.
Two things make printed nylon earrings different, and only one of them is about the material.
Nylon is roughly a tenth the density of sterling silver. A form that weighs twenty grams cast in silver weighs about two in nylon. That alone changes what an earring feels like after three hours.
This is the larger effect, and the less obvious one.
A cast piece has to survive being made in a mold, and a mold has to come apart. That forces solidity: enclosed voids are impossible, deep undercuts are impossible, and anything intricate has to be thick enough not to break during casting and finishing.
Sintering has no mold. The piece forms inside a bed of loose powder that supports it from every direction while it builds, so the inside can be whatever the design wants. Hollow. Open. A lattice with no route in or out.
So the comparison isn't really nylon against silver. It is a mostly hollow nylon form against a necessarily solid silver one — and the difference is not a tenth of the weight but considerably less than that.
An earring can be as large as the design wants to be. Not "large for an earring" — genuinely architectural, the kind of scale that reads from across a room, without the wearer counting down the evening.
It also changes what is worth designing at all. When weight stops being a constraint, the question becomes what the form should do rather than how little material it can be made from. Several pieces in this collection are larger than anything I would make in metal, and they are larger on purpose.
The ear wires and posts are sterling silver, some of them plated in 18K gold. They are a small fraction of the weight and they are not negotiable: the part that goes through your ear should be metal.
Weight isn't the only reason a large earring becomes uncomfortable. A piece that hangs far below the ear can pull at the lobe through leverage alone, even when it weighs almost nothing. Where a design is long as well as large, the drop is listed on the product page.
